Well we had the first (of this group) Point Fermin Neighborhood Watch last night and all and all I think it was a great step towards neighborhood safety. And it was nice getting to know one another.
We have agreed to meet again on February 20th at 6:30PM (location to be determined) and then we intend to meet again at the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council Governing Board at Cabrillo Marina Community Building, Cabrillo Plaza, Berth 28 on 2/25/08 at 6:30 to let our voices be heard.
It seemed the main concern was graffiti and a few citizens have installed cameras to tape and record graffiti artists in higher tagged areas. There has been great success with this. A group was formed with Abe, Kim and Scott to discuss a plan for a wireless camera network.
I offered to put a Point Fermin blog together as a place we can go to stay in touch. I would like some suggestions as to the best place to host this blog. Your feedback is welcome and encouraged.

First of all, I want to thank Carol for responding to a need and organizing the Pt. Fermin Neighborhood Watch.
Second, I want to say that we are lucky to have Officer Buscaino as our Senior Lead Officer.
According to the Daily Breeze Police Log for 1/31/08, there was a residential burglery on 39th street last week.
Officer Buscaino could probably fill us in better, but these residential burglaries have been occuring during the day, when most folks are at work.
They may knock on the front door to see if anyone answers. Then they go around back and break in by breaking a window or just kicking in a door. They might see what is in the garage, too. They are after computers, cameras, jewelry, etc.
The question is, if we are at work during the day, how do we protect ourselves against this type of residential daytime burglery?
Don't suggest getting a dog. My dogs would probably just wag their tails and start begging for treats.
What about an alarm system? If anyone can recommend a good alarm company, please post.
I hear they cost about $30/month, though, and that they make you sign a year or two year contract.
Any other suggestions?
